We are pleased to confirm that the LLR funding application to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund (AFCF) Veterans’ Places, Pathways and People programme (VPPP), supported by our Armed Forces Officer, has been successful.
The AFCF Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund has awarded £7,898,456 to 10 organisations across the UK. LLR falls under the ‘Midlands’ area where the programme will be coordinated by the Defence Medical Welfare Service to develop better and more joined-up lasting support for local veterans with mental health needs.
On behalf of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, Loughborough Wellbeing Centre successfully bid for £60,000 to set up a veteran wellbeing hub based in Loughborough with satellite hubs in Oakham and Lutterworth. The bid was developed after the recent Armed Forces Survey identified a need for a dedicated veterans’ hub.
The project is for two years and will provide a safe space for veterans to meet. The funding will be used for a specialist hub leader and sessional workers to deliver activities, and provide advice, information and support, and signposting to veterans.
The Oakham Hub will be delivered in partnership with local veteran groups and organisations, and include local veteran to veteran peer support.
