Would you like to make a difference to local people?
A partnership of local organisations is setting up a new bereavement group in Uppingham. The Bereavement Help Point wants to provide the local community with a place where they can access practical information, talk to others and share their emotions in a friendly and safe space. It will be open to everyone who has experienced bereavement in their life (whether that was last week or two years ago) and will be a drop-in service, so there’s no commitment or booking system – people can just turn up when they feel in need of a little help and TLC.
Bereavement Help Points have been set up in other parts of Rutland and across the country. They are highly valued by local communities because the focus is on what local people have told us they want and there’s no need to travel a long way to get there. This is just one of many positive comments from someone who’s benefitted from the groups in the past: “Coming to the Bereavement Help Point helped me as people understood how I felt.”
The Uppingham group will be led by Claire Henry MBE, who has worked in end-of-life care for 30 years and lives in Uppingham, the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, three local hospices, Rutland residents and other community organisations.
But we really need you to help us, too!
The Bereavement Help Point sessions will be run by volunteers, supported by local organisations. We are looking for volunteers who would like to get involved with the groups and talk to those who come along for support. Or maybe you have skills in admin, like posting on social media or are very good at organising! We have many different volunteering opportunities, and it is such a valuable way to help people at a time when they need it most.
No experience is necessary as all our volunteers will receive bereavement training and have the support of an experienced team. Hours can be flexible.
We are keen to hear from people living in and around Uppingham who are interested in volunteering so please do drop us a line or give us a call. We’d love to hear from you!
