Message from the SEND Service - statutory SEND timescales

Rutland County Council Meeting its statutory SEND timescales

We are aware that a few parent were concerned about the statement on the Local Offer regarding  RCC meeting its statutory timescales, please see an update:

We have recently experienced some staff changes within the SEND service which meant that for a short period of time we unfortunately experienced unexpected delays in some areas of our work.  We have successfully managed to recruit an interim Case Officer who joined our team on 4th April and will remain with us until a permanent replacement is able to join our team.  They are currently undergoing a short intensive training period and will soon be contacting families directly to introduce themselves.

We are currently in the recruitment process and seeking several staff members to join the team including a new full-time permanent Case Officer, as well as an additional full-time fixed term Case Officer, who will initially join the team for one year.  We will shortly be recruiting for a part-time SEND Development Officer, again for an initial one-year period.  We are increasing staff capacity in the SEND service in response to the increased demands placed on the service whilst we also review our service model in light of the proposed changes to the SEND system, as highlighted in the Green Paper.

We are incredibly proud of the high levels of compliance that Rutland have previously achieved with regards to meeting statutory timeframes and are aware that for a short period of time we experienced significant challenges, some of our deadlines slipped and we would like to apologise to those who experienced any delays.

The Service is now pleased to report that we have come through this difficult time and our compliance with statutory timeframes have returned to the levels which we have always worked hard to maintain. If there are any delays to timeframes these will be due to circumstances beyond our control, such as waiting on responses from colleagues in other services or delays in receiving paperwork from education providers, which RCC is addressing with our partner agencies to avoid this occurring.

Accordingly the previous Statement on the Local Offer has been taken down.
