SEND Local Offer Rutland Information Service

Autism Support in Rutland for Children and Young People

Rutland Council Inclusion service is responsible for identifying all children with Additional Needs as early as possible. Our priority is to help all children to be happy and able to learn as well as they can.

The service works with children and adolescents (2 - 17 years old) who have a diagnosis of autism, or who are struggling in the areas of communication, social interaction, or emotional self-regulation.

Requests for support are made through submitting a referral, which can be initiated by a number of professionals.  Early Years worker, teacher; health professional (Speech & Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Health Visitor, Paediatrician), an Educational Psychologist, or other professionals.

Support can also be accessed through Rutland’s Early Help team, who provide whole family support.

Parental consent is always required before any support can be put in place. Any support is through parental discussion and with their agreement.

Visits can be made to nurseries, day-care and pre-school settings to assess children and advise staff how to provide the best experience for individual children. Our aim is to work together to enable the child to achieve the best possible outcomes.

The support offered provides flexible, holistic and tailored advice and support for children and adolescents in primary schools and colleges. Home Support can also be offered.

Through Aiming High, informal meetings and support for parents/carers of children can be arranged to help and support children who are causing concern; may be at the beginning of the process of assessment, or already have a diagnosis. There is the opportunity to share with other parents, in a mutually supportive environment.

If requested by parents/carers we can focus on a particular issue, for instance Sensory Processing, Challenging Behaviour, Sleep, Eating.

Training packages on aspects of autism to a wide range of groups including schools and Early Years staff can also be arranged.
