EMPOWER diabetes education courses

Local Diabetes Education Course

EMPOWER is a diabetes education course that supports people to better manage their Type 2 diabetes and reduce the risk of long term health complications. 

People diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are able to attend a local EMPOWER course to receive support and advice on how to self-manage their diabetes to live a healthier quality of life -  it’s free, paid for by the NHS and only lasts four hours!

 

WHERE WILL THE COURSES BE?

Sessions are run in local venues near to you. Most courses are run during the week but we also offer evening and weekend courses. Look on the Courses page for a list of the next courses.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTEND THE COURSE?

Courses will usually be for between 6 and 12 people. You can bring a carer, friend or family member to attend the session with you.

HOW DO I ATTEND A COURSE?

If you would like to join a course, please speak to your GP or practice nurse who can register you. Once you have been referred, we will send out a confirmation letter and offer you a place on a course. Alternatively you can register online by going to  www.empowerllr.co.uk  Here you will find a list of all courses currently running and where you can book your place on the course of your choosing.

The location of courses changes all the time as new sessions come on board. Patients can go to any of the ones on the available list as well as the ones in Rutland. We usually run the Rutland sessions every 2 months depending on the demand. There is one planned for 24th October which is now fully booked. The next one is likely to be December or January (dates tbc)

Courses available can be viewed by visiting the website, clicking on courses and confirming you are have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Session Information
The sessions are informative and friendly. You will have the opportunity to meet other local people and have access to qualified educators who are there to pass on important information and answer any questions you may have. The course has an excellent Friends and Family test score of 99% - so people like the course!
