How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

How we identify if your child / young person may need additional help and/or has special educational needs (SEN)

St Nicholas works closely with families and children to identify additional needs as early as possible on entry into school, if not prior to this during Taster Sessions for our Foundation children. We screen for Dyslexia at Y2 if class teachers or families have any concerns or where there is a family history of Dyslexia or Dyspraxia. We work closely with families and a range of external agencies to enable our staff team to optimise progress in all our pupils. Individual differences are greatly respected and celebrated in our school. We also have awareness days so that children learn to understand and empathise with each others' learning styles. We have a Language Advisor, Dyslexia specialist and other Therapeutic Interventions within the Rutland Learning Trust which we have access to. We have staff trained in Emotional First Aid.

Please see our website or call us for further information.
