Fostering & Adoption Service - Rutland County Council

Fostering Service

We recruit, assess and train new foster carers both mainstream and connected persons otherwise known as friends and family foster carers.

Once approved foster carers receive regular monthly visits from their Supervising Social Worker to provide ongoing support, advice and guidance.  Foster Carers receive payment when child/ren are placed with them and also an allowance for the child/ren they look after.

Private Fostering

If you have been looking after a young person under the age of 16 (who is not related to you) for a continuous period of 28 days this is called Private Fostering.  You should contact Rutland County Council to register with us as a Private Foster Carer.

If you are interested in adoption please contact the Fostering Team on the telephone number 01572 720942 or Leicestershire County Council on 0116 305 3051.

Fostering a Child

Fostering a child is a rewarding, challenging and demanding job which requires an ever increasing level of skill and responsibility.

As an approved foster carer for Rutland County Council you will have been prepared to a certain degree for the complexities of fostering children of different ages, needs and backgrounds

As a foster care you will be responsible for providing the child with safe, consistent and compassionate day to day care.

Fostering is both a professional and an intensely personal task, taking a child into your home and family may have an emotional impact on you and your family.

Your working relationship with your Supervising social Worker will provide you with essential support.

You will also be part of a multi-professional network with the experience and knowledge to support you to best meet the needs of the child.
