Keeping well and healthy is really important for everyone.
The NHS provide universal services that everyone can access and use. Details of these services can be found on the NHS Choices website which also has lots of information and advice.
Children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) may need support from different health services at different stages in their lives.
Health professionals are asked to inform the local authority when they identify development or learning needs, for children under the age of 5 years as we believe that sharing information early provides the best opportunity to assess and support you and your child.
If you have worries or questions about your child’s health, talk to your doctor, health visitor or school nurse. They can help with lots of health issues and concerns and can also refer you to specialist health services depending on your child’s needs.
Some children and young people may have more complex health needs due to their special need or disability. These children may be referred to the community paediatric team who provide a more specialised service for children and young people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
