Bereavement Support

Following a bereavement, people will be looking for support; to talk, and try and make sense of what has happened.

Support is available from a number of organisations, offering helpful information on what to expect and how to cope.

Please remember that many of these services may be delayed in responding to you due to the current demand. They apologise to you in advance.

Bereavement Help Point

A Bereavement Help Point has been set up to help Rutland residents cope with bereavement and loneliness by providing a service that offers the opportunity to talk to others in a similar situation. The service was initially set up for face-to-face support in Ketton. Due to COVID-19, this support has now been moved online.

The Bereavement Help Point is a drop-in service that aims to provide people with a place where they can access information and support. They can talk to others and share their emotions in a safe online environment. It does not matter when the bereavement happened – it could have been very recently or several years ago – the Help Point is available to everyone.

The Help Point has been set up by local residents, Ketton Parish Council, LOROS, Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall and Dove Cottage, with support from Dying Matters in Rutland, the Whitebread Trust and Community Foundation. It is run by volunteers who have undergone training and are supported by our local Hospices.

Residents that are dealing with bereavement or have experienced it in the past are invited to attend the virtual Bereavement Help points, which run every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10.00am to 11.30am.

Further information about the Bereavement Help Point can be obtained by calling:  01572 722 630 or by emailing: rutland@dovecottage.org
